Frequently Asked Questions
As this service is not formally offered by many others, you may be unsure why you need or should trust Find a Better Breeder to locate a reputable dog breeder. Please read our most frequently asked questions below to learn more about our puppy finder service.
How did this dog breeder finder service get started?
We have owned and run a very successful dog training business for years and have had a plethora of clients come to us to help them find their next dog. Our clients have seen firsthand our knowledge and love for dogs as well as trust our vast real-world dog training, veterinarian, and breeding experience. They know we will do real work and research to find them the best possible dog breeder and puppy for their specifications. After successfully locating and connecting many owners to good dog breeders over the years, we wanted to offer other dog owners the opportunity to utilize our knowledge and connections to make their puppy search as easy as possible.
Why do I need to use this service when I can just look breeders up on the internet?
Everyone knows of a dog breeder or someone who used to breed dogs, but when you are on the search to buy a puppy the sheer amount of dog breeders is overwhelming. People who understand and appreciate the value of owning a well-bred dog use our services to lessen the stress and burden of searching, vetting, and contacting breeders. Purchasing a dog is a huge decision and getting a puppy from a subpar breeder can have devastating consequences like preventable genetic health issues, improper temperament, no future breeder support and more. We can navigate through the scams, puppy mills, bad breeders, and other issues for you to find the perfect dog breeder for you.
How will you find the best dog breeder for me?
The first step in the process is the initial phone consultation where we will ask you very specific questions about your puppy specifications and wish list. After we discuss things like how active your lifestyle is and your dog experience level we will start our search into breeders that will fit your criteria best. There are thousands of dog breeders in the US of various levels of experience and we will narrow down your best breeder options to just a handful of breeders that are exactly what you are looking for.
Do you locate breeders for other pet species (cat, reptile, equine, etc.)?
At this time we only offer services finding dog breeders, however, we do have contacts and information of many various animal species and reputable breeders of all types of pets so if you are looking for a different type of animal from a breeder, please reach out as we would be happy to help you on your search.
How can you be sure these are reputable breeders not scammers or puppy mills?
Since Covid-19, there has been a massive uptick in the number of people in the US who are breeding dogs with the hope of selling the puppies to make a profit. What this means for you is that the majority of "breeders" whom you find in your local town or online are new to breeding dogs and don't have the experience, knowledge or standards that a well-known established dog breeder has. Just because someone calls themselves a dog breeder doesn't mean that they are breeding dogs for the right reasons. The best and most reputable dog breeders go to extreme lengths to ensure they are only breeding excellent examples of the breed with a goal for their program. These top breeders spend huge amounts of time and money showing their dogs in competitions of all types to prove their ability and temperament as well as conduct all breed relevant health tests before the breeding takes place.
Do you have a service guarantee?
We guarantee we will find breeder suggestions that fit your specifications within reason, if you are unhappy with your breeder results, please let us know right away so we can resolve the issue with other breeder suggestions that fit your criteria better. If during your initial phone consultation, we believe that your criteria are unreasonable for the breed(s) you are interested in, we will let you know that and would be happy to offer you a different package that can help you pick a more appropriate dog breed to fit your specifications.
How long does it take to find my breeder or puppy?
There is no specific answer to this question as there are so many variables to purchasing a puppy. Female dogs are only able to breed at certain times and that only happens a couple of times per year usually. Sometimes we will find the perfect breeder for you but they won't have puppies available currently, the best option is to get on the breeder's wait list for the next litter. The research to find the breeder options takes less than a week and you will have results quickly but the amount of time it takes for your new puppy to come to your home varies.
